FROM HATCHING EGG TO DAY-OLD CHICK

    A rock-solid chain

    Step 1. Hatching eggs

How do we ensure our day-old chicks are strong and healthy? It starts with our breeders in Belgium, France, and the Netherlands. They provide optimal care with the right climate, balanced feed, meticulous health management, and comprehensive vaccinations.

    Step 2. Egg transport

We're constantly on the move, collecting hatching eggs from over a million contracted mother birds. We transport these eggs in vehicles with advanced climate systems, keeping everything clean and precise with our data-driven approach to logistics.

    Step 3. Breeding

We sanitize the eggs and gently place them into incubators. In our hatcheries, we simulate the natural incubation process under ideal conditions, constantly monitoring temperature, CO2 levels, and humidity. We also turn the eggs regularly to ensure even growth.

    Step 4. Hatching

On day 18, we use infrared technology to check the eggs. Only the fertilized ones move on to hatch, where they might get a vaccination right inside the egg to help poultry farmers and ensure vaccination quality. Three days later, the chicks hatch. We pick them up carefully and give them another tailor-made vaccination, aiding broiler farmers in reducing antibiotic use.

    Step 5. Delivery

Now, it’s time to deliver these day-old chicks to poultry farmers all over Europe and beyond. We use the latest conditioned vehicles, driven by certified drivers, to maintain a stable environment—managing temperature, humidity, and CO2 levels to keep the chicks stress-free and healthy. Our vehicles have backup systems to ensure optimal conditions are always maintained.

"With over a million dams under contract and hatcheries in Belgium, France, and a partner facility in the Netherlands, we're well-equipped to meet your needs as a poultry farmer, slaughterhouse, or integrated operation."

    Biosecurity

Lafaut implements safety measures at every step of the process to minimize the risk of disease entering and spreading. Our own and contracted breeders meet high standards set by IKB Kip, Belplume, and QS. We also maintain strict hygiene protocols in our hatcheries.

    Animal welfare

Our breeding animals enjoy spacious barn conditions and access to high-quality feed (GMP+) and clean water. Regular health checks and a comprehensive vaccination schedule help protect them from viruses and diseases. This approach also gives our day-old chicks a healthier start, as they benefit from vaccines passed through the egg.

    Traceability

Our meticulous record-keeping ensures that all our day-old chicks are fully traceable. If needed, we can quickly trace the origin of any chicks we deliver. With Lafaut Online, you always have access to all the important details about your order.

Four generations of passion for poultry

Choosing Lafaut? You’re choosing a family business that’s been committed to delivering top-notch quality for four generations.

This commitment started in the 1940s when our great-grandfather, Gerard Lafaut, set up a farm with 600 laying hens. His son, Azair, had the vision to hatch the eggs from his father’s hens into chicks.

Now, with Koen, Angela, and Maxim—the third and fourth generations—at the helm, Lafaut is expanding into the global export of hatching eggs and day-old chicks. As an independent family-owned company, we're quick, efficient, and competitive.

But what really sets us apart? Our approach. We're out there every day with the mother birds in the barn and the chicks in the hatchery. We understand your language and share your passion for poultry. We’re committed to building personal, long-term relationships with you, the poultry farmer.
