The history of LafautIn the 1940s, Gerard Lafaut buys six hundred laying hens, a valuable purchase during the tough war years. It marks the start of four generations of Lafaut in poultry.
Gerard Lafaut's son, Azair, builds a breeding barn in Beselare. In the following years, the farm is expanded to 20,000 parent stock.
Azair Lafaut decides to hatch eggs in-house. An in-house hatchery is built in Beselare.
The hatchery continued to grow and Azair Lafaut took the plunge abroad. He bought a hatchery in Hondschoote, France, which was fully developed. In the same year, his son Koen joined the family business.
Lafaut's day-old chicks meanwhile find their way to several countries. Koen Lafaut takes over the business from father Azair.
The export of hatching eggs is taking off. Thanks to good partnerships with breeders in several countries, Lafaut supplies first-class hatching eggs. These now find their way all over the world.
The passion for poultry continues with the fourth generation. Angela and Maxim joining the family business, keeping the legacy alive.
