Lafaut Hatchery to Open New Branch in West Africa Soon
Ivory Coast presents promising opportunities for poultry breeders. The family-owned hatchery Lafaut (BE) has been undergoing a transformation with the involvement of daughter Angela (36) and son Maxim (28). The fourth generation has shifted the company’s focus — from exclusively delivering chicks to prioritizing the export of hatching eggs.
Company manager Koen Lafaut (58):
"Just over ten years ago, barely 10% of our hatching eggs were exported. Today, that number has risen to 80%. Our breeder stock has expanded significantly and now includes a total of 1.1 million parent stock birds. These breeder farms are spread across the Netherlands, Belgium, and France. This allows us to spread risk — for instance, in case of an avian influenza outbreak. Enhanced biosecurity and containing potential spread within our supply chain remain top priorities."
